My Life in Motion Part 2

Last week, I was home. It was my son’s birthday. We celebrated ahead of time so as not to hinder our schedule at work. The whole side of my family was there to be his celebrants. After all, they only got to see him once in a while. He’s still 2 years old and I guess he does not have any idea why the celebration but I saw him happy and glad to see his relatives.

On his actual birthday, we met again. It was just us this time. We had lunch and I was late. After lunch, we had some business to take care of and then it was done. Whatever that was done was good for all of us, especially for my son. I hope.

And then, I had a plane to catch later in the afternoon going back to Manila. After touchdown at NAIA, my Blackberry can’t stop beeping, only to find out that I have some emails to approve an hour ago, while I’m on the plane. Tsk tsk tsk. And then, another message came reminding of my trip to Bicol immediately. Whew! I totally forgot the trip. I can’t do anything, it’s on my schedule and I have to be there.

My colleague and I took the last trip to Legaspi City. It was quite uncomfy this time. I just got home, and then I’m leaving again. I was all haggard. I have not taken my dinner, have not taken a bath or brushed my teeth. Just changed clothes and then switched bags and then I was all set. Really uncomfy.

We arrived Legaspi the following morning. Rain was pouring due to cloud seeding. Luckily, our staff in Bicol were all accommodating. Thanks to Sir Chits and his staff.

While in Bicol, I was able to taste the now famous SILI ICE CREAM. Yes, they have invented the ice cream that will represent the true Bicolano Spirit, putting sili in all their dishes. The ice cream taste is still there, it just that it has chili after taste. You can feel the hotness after you have swallowed the ice cream. If you’re not fond like me of chili taste, then I will not recommend eating SILI ICE CREAM.

On our last day of this trip, Sir Chits was able to show us the Daraga Church, one of the oldest churches here in the Philippines. It was built right in full-view Mayon Volcano although this time Mayon was not in full view because of the cloud seeding. But it was still beautiful.

And then later that night, we took the bus going back to Manila. I was seated infront next to the driver. The roads after Bicol is still ravage making it difficult for big buses and trucks to pass and thus creating a heavy and long traffic in the area. It’s been 2 years when I started traveling to Bicol and has experienced heavy and long traffic on that part of the national highway and until now it is still damaged. Too bad.

We arrived Manila safely and just stayed home for the weekends.

I was able to talk to my mother whom she is voting for this May 10 election. And she told she will vote for Villar and Binay. Interesting pair, isn’t it? My mother watched a lot of TV, so maybe, I thought, that’s why she is voting for Villar. Villar had spent already P1B for his TV ads, enough to convince my mother to vote for him. Just kidding. As for Binay, I quite wonder why him? My mother lives in Mindanao and people from Mindanao barely know Binay, I think. So I think, it was their personal backgrounds that made my mother want to vote for them, having them their lives from raised from rags to riches. I told you my mother loves TV and she enjoyed watching telenovelas especially stories about poor people struggled themselves to riches.

As of today, it means I haven’t changed my mind voting for Noynoy. Primarily, I think it’s because I like his sister Kris. Really, I like Kris even if most of the people I know wouldn’t like her. Secondly, because Noynoy is still young and he possesses the qualities I want for a president. I really don’t know about the future of politics in the Philippines. But one thing for sure, as of today, I know whom to vote for on May 10. I might change my mind but so far I had not. As for Mar Roxas, he has proven his worth being a senator, I think he will do good as a vice-president.

We shall have that freedom once again to choose who will lead us to glory. So we must vote wisely.

The Beautiful Mayon

I’m here at Legaspi City today, home of the infamous Mayon Volcano.

I can still remember when I first saw Mayon in person. It was like seeing it in a postcard for the very first time. Yes, whatever you see in the postcard is really true. Even me could not believe it. Mayon is truly majestic. Standing proudly over Albay as if a goddess watching over it’s kingdom.

Now, Mayon is everywhere here in Albay and I no longer feel the same feeling I felt when I first saw it. I’ve gotten used to seeing it everywhere. Right now, I’m working and I can see it through the glass wall of the office

THE USUAL FRIDAY

0720

I woke up late this morning. Actually I woke up very early just to pee and then went back dozing again and instead woke up late. I got out of bed immediately and took my 10 minutes morning bath and that includes cleaning my mouth for 3 minutes. And then put on some clothes and then ready to office. I didn’t find it difficult to get dress as I already assigned what to wear on Fridays beforehand. For the rest of the weekdays, I’m using my office uniforms. A collection of different colored shirt-jacks, like the one worn by bus drivers and conductors.

0800

My place is a 10-minute walk from the office.  I find it good for me as my daily exercise.  I passed by some bakeshop/sari-sari store to buy my usual breakfast, 4 pieces of Spanish bread and then went to straight to the office. I’m already late, time-in per TKS is 08:12am.

0815

Yesterday, I had snowballs and cashew brittle from my colleagues as pasalubong from Baguio. Now, I have pastels from Cagayan de Oro. It’s a usual here in the office to bring pasalubong to everyone every time you are back from engagements from distant provinces. Sometimes, they gave me keychains and some other “abubots” upon their returned. Now I have Spanish bread and pastel for breakfast and of course, coffee. Usually, that consist my breakfast. And sometimes, if I’m really late, I only have coffee. If I don’t have coffee, I have oatmeal, the flavored instant one from Quaker. And then I proceed with my usual daily work routine.

Franco, a mate, introduced me to stagevu.com. Actually it was Erwin who told me about it first. Franco just enhanced what is great of the website. You think you’re only watching it thru video streaming but you are actually creating a temporary internet file on your memory that can be saved for later viewing even if you are not online anymore. And the movies are all new and some are not released yet in Philippine theaters.  I thought it’s cool especially for me who watch movies all the time. And my favorite movie of all time is Titanic. Too bad it’s no longer the Number One Box Office Movie of All Time or All Time Number One Box Office Movie or Number One All Time Box Office Movie. I think they’re all the same, isn’t it?

0930

My boss arrived.  He was early this time. He usually arrives at half past ten or later than that. He has a meeting with some insurance guy.

And then the usual day continued. The same usual work, the same usual question about why the name on my ID says UNO and the same usual coffee breaks at the backgate.

1020

I got a message on my blackberry asking how much is the house and the equity. No, I’m not selling any house but I am buying a house. There is this place along Bulacan offering townhouses at a very affordable price and I am very interested in owning one. I am very positive about this one.

1200

I had lunch at Eats. I have “tahong” and bananas. Nice combination.

1300

I started writing the draft for this blog.

1400

My boss has not arrived from eating out and so I was still writing the draft for this blog.

Vida went to the office. Sadly, she was bidding her farewell. We wished her good luck.

My boss has arrived and I pretended to be busy. We were discussing about the new area we will be transferring to. We had the floor plan already and the assignment of cubicles and worktables for all.  I’m glad we will transfer. It’s kinda suffocating in here. It’s a little office for all 20 of us.

1500

I looked for coffee at Ate Tess. She gave me Kopiko to try. It has different taste as compared to my usual Nescafe but still it’s coffee. I like everything about coffee. I remember, I started drinking coffee when I was six years old. My mom was a coffeeholic. When we eat together, she always has coffee beside her and so I asked and she put it in my rice. And then it became a usual to me. Putting coffee on rice. Until now, everytime I’m home, I still do it. It’s perfect with pancit and dried fish.

The rest of the afternoon felt boring, as always. I kept looking at my watch hoping it’s 5pm already. Some of mates who were out this morning were back and the office is crowdy and noisy again. But it’s a good feeling actually.  Seeing them bully around.

1700

I am writing the rest of this blog. In an hour, I will be home, I must be. Today is the first elimination round for American Idol. I must know who make it this week and the rest of the season. I haven’t decided on who will be my favorite though.

And then I will be watching the news.

I will eat my dinner after the news.

And then probably watch DVD.

And then watch Rubi before going to bed.

And then dreamland, here I come.

Enigma The Platinum Collection

Who would have thought I would be listening to Enigma’s The Platinum Collection. And honestly, I’m enjoying it.

I was able to chance upon this album on some downloading site and thought how about I try listening to it. And so I illegally download it. This album was release last year. It was a collection of the best Enigma music there is. In all honesty, the only song I knew in the album is Return to Innocence because I’ve seen its music video on MTV a million times already.

Well, there are familiar sounds to me like Age of Loneliness, Principles of Lust and Gravity of Love (once you heard it, you will know it). And right now, my new favorite is Out from the Deep. It is somehow unique from all of the songs in the album. The tune is more upbeat and more pop-rock you might think you are listening to some U2 song.

It’s not really a favorite but I really enjoy the album. It’s one of the albums I listen to every time I go out of town. You know, riding some bus or plane with your headset on while staring at the windows to nowhere. And then you dozed out.

My Life In Sagada (Day 2)

DAY 2

430am

Our day started very early. We were off to Keltipan Peak. It was freezing. We were the first group to arrive Keltipan and minutes later another group arrived. Sooner, there were many of us eager to witness the sunrise.

5am

Thirty minutes had passed. The light has started to change on the horizon. Now we saw the outline of the mountain ranges.

530am

The sunrise had come but no sun around. It was the most beautiful sunrise in my life. Watching the sunrise with sweet.

600am

We didn’t wait for the sun to come. We went back to the hotel.  We had coffee, I decided to taste the local brew of Sagada. It was different, it tasted like the coffee we had back in my hometown, made of dried rice.

After we had fixed up our things, we went back to Yughort House for breakfast.  Didn’t I tell you that Yughort House is my favorite place in Sagada? This time, I tried Hiker’s Delight. It was big pancake rolled over yuhgort and banana with strawberry preserves on top. The most delicious pancake in my entire life.

10am

We missed the third bus to Baguio so we decided to go to Bontoc and take the ride to Baguio from there. From Bontoc we took Lizardo Bus to Baguio. The Bus left Bontoc at 1pm, the same schedule the bus at Sagada left for Baguio. Nice.

The road to Baguio was as dangerous as the road from Banaue to Bontoc.

We saw the areas affected by the landslides when we reached Benguet.

We passed the highest point of the National Highway in Atok, Benguet.

7pm

We arrived Baguio and we took the 9pm bus to Cubao.

My Life In Sagada (Day 1)

Sweet and me decided to conquer Sagada as our Valentine’s date. The following is a journal on what had happened during our trip.

DAY 1

6:00 am
We arrived Banaue after an over night trip from Sampaloc via Florida Bus. The weather was colder than you think. The sun is up already but its still cold. We had breakfast at some local resto. And we were able to taste again the red rice we had tasted at Tam-awan Village on our trip to Baguio last Valentines. Banaue was just a small town with very few establishments. From the poblacion you can already see some parts of the famous rice terraces. There’s nothing especial about Banaue except for the rice terraces.

8:30am
We left Banaue for Bontoc aboard a jeepney. I keep joking to Sweet about how star-studded we were on the jeep. We have the look-alikes of Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Ashley Tisdale and Winona Ryder on board with us on the jeep. Yeah, most of the passengers were foreigners, mostly from France. I listened when they talk and they sounded French. Even during our night trip to Banaue, on board with us were the Backstreet Boys. And when we had the short stop at Sta. Fe, when I stepped out of the bus to pee, they were everywhere. Am I still in the Philippines? I just thought.

We got lucky we have taken the front seats of the jeep. On the way to Bontoc, you can take a glimpse of the rice terraces of Banaue. The way to Bontoc via Banaue was not nice. Going there was a never ending, long and winding dangerous curves you have never seen in your entire life. It’s an endless cliff ahead of us. The good thing was the road was concreted infact, some parts of the concreting is still on going.

11am
Thirty minutes away from Bontoc, we stopped in a village because the road was closed. There was a landslide and big rocks fell and covered the road making for us difficult to cross. Thanks to the military, they were there to help us. They get us somewhere safe to cross and get another jeepney to Bontoc.

12nn
We arrived at Bontoc and took immediately the jeep to Sagada. It was a smaller jeep and there were many of us so I decided to take the top load. It was nice to be on top I thought and I was right. I was able to look at the scenery in full view. Right after taking Dantoy turn, the road to Sagada was no longer concreted. As we rise by levels towards the top of the mountains, the road became rougher and more dangerous. We had a bumpy ride towards Sagada but it’s all worth it especially for me who was seated on the top load. I never missed a beautiful scene.

1pm
And the wind blew colder and colder. It was the sign. We were in Sagada. Sagada has such beautiful scenery. The people are warm and friendly. The place is just a small village. We looked immediately for a place to stay. Looking for a place to stay in Sagada would be a little disappointing. Most of the hotels have to private bath and has no TV. So we settled for Sagada Igorot Inn. We thought that was the most expensive hotel in Sagada. There was no aircon for you won’t need it anymore. But there was no TV. We didn’t look further for another hotel because aside from we were already eager to take the tour, we have to walk around in order to go to the next hotel, yes, there are no means for short distance ride like trike or pedicab in Sagada.

230pm
After we had settled, we began the tour by going to the tourism office. Because we only have to stay overnight, we chose the best spot we can go. We’ve chosen Sumaguing Cave and Keltipan Peak.

Before we went to Sumaguing, we visited the St. Mary’s Church. It is one of the most beautiful churches we have here in our country. And then, we proceed to Echo Valley by asking some friendly local and then spot on some hanging coffins nearby. Since we don’t have a guide, we only listen to a guide by another group explaining about the hanging coffin.

4pm
We went back to the tourism office where our guide Mr. Awen and the driver of the van, Mr. Rey waited for us for the spelunking in the caves. On our way, Mr. Awen showed us a hanging coffin you can spot on the street. We went to Lumiang Cave first. Stacked in pile are small sized coffins you might think there were kids inside. But as Mr. Awen had told us, it was there belief as Igorots that since you had came to earth as newborn child so you must go as child also, hence, the fetal position in burying.

And I must tell you that Mr. Awen explained that to me in good English.

And then we proceed to Sumaguing Cave. Sweet didn’t brave the cave. While were outside, she told me she wouldn’t dare anymore. So, it’s just my guide and me. I was a bit excited because the cave has been featured on TV a lot of the times. And seeing it for yourself would be very exciting.

The descent was longer than I thought. It was easy though because they have stairs. Before we get inside, Awen oriented me of the rules to be followed while inside the cave and then he lighted the “petromax”. We decent further and then there were no more lights, just the glow of our “petro”. The entrance was difficult. I had to walk through slippery rocks that I decided to walk on foot. The bats on the cave ceiling are creating noises. Even if it’s dark, you can actually see them. Then the texture of the rocks changed. Awen told me it’s calcite. Whatever that is, it means good. It’s not slippery at all. When I look at it, it looks like lava flowing out of a volcano.

There are a lot of formations inside the cave. I was really amazed by the sceneries inside. The decent was not at all easy and I thought of sweet. She should have enjoyed it here.

5pm
I was as exhausted as a dog but felt joy inside after we went out of the cave. We passed some other cavers. We went back to the hotel to rest.

630pm
It was already dark outside. We decided to have dinner at Yughort House.

Yughort House is my most favorite place in Sagada. They have the best food.

8pm
We went back to the hotel to rest for the early trip to Keltipan the following day.

Sleepyhead.

It was a tiring week. I just got back from a work engagement in Cebu.

We arrived Cebu on Monday very early, as early as 5am. We went directly to the hotel only to find out that we couldn’t have an early check-in for there are still guests occupying the room. So we waited at the lobby and I got so sleepy I dozed out on the sofa. Hehehe, I always do that, sleep it out!

Anyways, there was nothing really special about the work engagement we had in Cebu. The same warm people were there to say hello. We were doing the same old boring thing over and over again we became experts on it. And most especially, we ate the same good food only Cebu can deliver.

The newest experience I had was Casa Verde. I don’t know why its called Casa Verde, but I think it was because of the paint of the house. It was just a house turned old turned resto. A fad nowadays, all you need is a house and then you make it look like old and then you serve food. Talking about food, I was a bit shocked I wasn’t able to finish it all.

An hour earlier…
Joel, my colleague, was talking about having baby back ribs for lunch. And so he suggested we go to this resto.

And now… served right in front of me were baby back ribs, huge baby back ribs! So huge, if we fit two serves, we can study the whole skeletal system of a pig. Hehehe, just kidding. I say it was really huge, I’ve eaten only 1/3 of my serve. But don’t get me worng for it was good and very delicious, only it’s huge.

This time, I wasn’t able to shop for something. Cebu has a wide array of shopping malls. Here is a good thing about shopping in Cebu: The stuff you can’t be able to buy in Manila during its regular run can be found here on sale.

I just got back from Cebu early this morning. Last night, we were up the whole evening with some of my colleagues from the department. Joel and I went back to the hotel at 2am because we still have a plane to catch at 4pm only to find out our plane would be leaving at 445am. And so, as I always do, I slept on the terminal. And right after boarding, I slept again on the plane.

Just a thought….

Now I’m wondering if there’s someone out there whose really reading this blog. Anyone?
